Diderot’s malachite clock
The interior table clock is made according to the classic Russian technologies of the 19th century from natural materials: bronze, malachite. Bronze clock elements are additionally minted by craftsmen by hand.
For the production of each clock, colossal manual labor is used. The artist needs to repeat nature in a static material – bronze. After minting and processing, the bronze elements are plated with natural 24-carat gold.
Each stone has its own color scheme. The pattern of the stone is selected by the master in such a way that the lines of the pattern smoothly pass from one to the other, creating the effect of a single stone. Each clock made is unique and may differ from the photographs presented on the site.
The clock case is made of natural material – malachite.
The items displayed in the Hermitage are made using the Russian mosaic technique. The clock uses classic reliable Citizen movements. All clock models are subject to repair, they can be disassembled, cleaned and, if necessary, reassembled, giving them their original appearance.
